Approximately in the geographical center of the Landes region, Contis is a typical beach in this area. Long, sandy and windy, it is perfect for surfers and those who like plenty of space for themselves. There is even a section where nudism is tolerated.
From the motorway A-63, take the exit 13 towards Lit-et-Mixe. Cross Saint-Julien-en-Born and continue through road D41 following the signs to Contis-Plage. If you are lucky, you could park at the foot of the dunes. If not, there is a larger car park under the pinetrees a little further. In summer it is not easy to find a place, anyway.
The beach
Like the rest of the beaches in the Landes, Contis is just the name given to a section of the uninterrupted stretch of sand that forms the french coast from Baionne to Arcachon.
The dunes are not so high in this area and apart from the ramp in the main access there are a few others wooden stairs down to the beach. There is a 50 m wide flat area of golden sand and then a steep slope into the sea with some small pebbles.
The waves and strong currents make swimming dangerous, so be careful. Or better, go to the surveilled area (even if it is out of the nudist section).

Facilities
There are lifeguards in the main section (not the naturist one), in a building equipped with public WC and showers. No bars in the beach itself, but the village of Contis-Plage is right behind the dunes.
Nudism
Contis is one of the few beaches in this region with a specifically designated area for naturists. It is located to the north of the surveilled area, marked with the sign in the picture.
It is not easy to read if you are walking along the shore, more than 100m away. You can also use as a reference the last access to the beach. From this point on most of the people will be nude, with the exception perhaps of the surfers looking for good waves.

I like:
- "Official" nudist area, you don't need to walk for kilometres to undress
I don't like:
- The traffic and the problems to find a parking place near the beach
